Grade XII students of DPSD Record Their Emotions In The Form Of Journal Entries

Image
Journal Entry of Haya Harris  During these unprecedented times, being able to go back to school and interact with your peers and teachers is definitely a glimmer of hope for the youth. As I come back to campus after being online for the past 1.5 years, I observed a lot of changes made around me. Vending machines replaced water dispensers, social distance signs were stuck everywhere, and lastly, the smiles of the students and teachers expressing their joy of being onsite were replaced by masks. As a senior student, I’m fortunate enough to be able to have my last year of school on campus and be able to encounter everything my seniors experienced. If everything goes well, we will have our senior trip, farewell and a proper graduation which I’m really looking forward to. I think the most important lesson to take from this pandemic is regardless of the severity of the obstacles we are facing, we must take it up as a challenge and adapt better in order to survive and make the ...

Students Pen Journal Entries Expressing Their Delight in Returning to School

Image
Journal Entry of Adnan Iqbal: Dear Diary, To be honest coming back to school was the best thing which has happened in this dreadful pandemic. We have been suffering for about two years now. This pandemic has brought many changes to our lifestyle positive and negative. Positive aspect is that we have many new skills like cooking, drawing, coding, etc. But the negative aspect is that it has made us addicted to our devices and also made us lazy. Our interaction with our classmates and teachers has been nil in these times.  But now since I and everyone else have returned to the campus it has been a great experience. I was in particular able to experience the joy of having discussions in class, playing with my friends and most of all, it is very easy to pay attention in class because in online sessions you are tempted to watch the YouTube or play games in all the periods. Coming back to campus was refreshing. Now I don’t feel bored at all. So as I conclude I would say that comi...

What Makes My School A Happy Place?

Image
Undoubtedly, school is a very happy place. Many of my best memories are associated with school. It is like our second home where we spend a considerable amount of time during the formative years of our life.   Some of the factors which contribute in making school a happy place are: 1. Positive environment  Among various parameters used for measuring the Happiness Index, psychological well- being of people is considered a prime factor. A positive environment contributes extensively to psychological well-being.  2. Time management Assessing the use and management of time is a key concern in assessment of HI. Regular workshops on helping children make their own work plans, take ownership of their learning, analyze their results and setting time frames can help children better manage their time. 3. Fostering unity in diversity Cultural diversity and resilience is a positive index of a happy community of people. Given that India has a strong cultural diversity, it becomes...

DPS Dubai - A Happy Place

Image
School is definitely my happiest place. It is essential for every child to go to school as school teaches us lessons which cannot be acquired anywhere else. The experience is one of a kind and along with education, we learn many other things like socializing, extra-curricular activities and more.  Education is an essential part of our lives. We are nothing without knowledge, and education is what makes us unique. School serves as the first learning place for most of the people. Similarly, it is the first spark in receiving an education. School is our second home where we spend most of our time. Above all, it gives us a platform to do better in life and also builds one's own personality. I feel blessed to study in one of the most prestigious and esteemed schools. In contrast to other schools our school does not solely focus on academic performance. In other words, it emphasizes on the overall development of the students. Along with academics, extra-curricular activities are also org...

My school, My Happy Place

Image
The rising sun on the grounds my school, a feeling of serenity that I can never get tired of. Soon I will be stepping out of this building to chase the birds that this very school prepared me for. Everyday I come with great expectations for a happening day; the thrill to meet my friends, the eager to learn lessons from the teachers who join us in our making our school life a memorable one. All and every fun memory plants a  permanent smile that will be imprinted in my soul as I move to college and then further in life. The enthusiasm I have for school is truly unmatched. Nothing can ever compare to the fresh curiosity and excitement I have every morning, sometimes even I wonder why I am so attached to this institution. Despite the work and exams, I still find back happiness and hope to do better in under the same roof. I will forever be grateful to the materialistic presence of those short brown tables and flat chairs that stayed with me no matter their condition, the cante...

My School: My Happy Place

Image
I can clearly recall a moment many years back when I came to the startling realization that I spent more time at school than I did with my family. For some reason, I was extremely surprised by this. I worked out that a place where young and impressionable kids spend their childhood should therefore be one that represents happiness and joy in their minds. I truly am fortunate to be part of that group to whom school is a safe place where I feel wanted and respected. I have been fortunate enough to belong to multiple friend groups, each of which is a unique hotchpotch of different interests and personalities. A large part of the person I am today has been molded by the different friends I’ve interacted with at this school. In fact, I am someone who looks forward to the next school day when I’ll be able to see familiar faces again. Despite the strong and intimate connection one may have with their parents and family, the need for a friend group in a similar age group is satisfied mos...

My School is My Happy Place

Image
Returning to my school after over a year and a half, I was filled with a flurry of mixed emotions; on one hand nervous about the adjustment and finding my way around again, on the other hand eager and relieved to go back to the sense of fun and normalcy, one thing we've all certainly missed. The novelty of the situation made me feel a certain sense of wonder and interest in all the little things I'd forgotten about being in school, the moments I'll look back on with nostalgia one day. For one thing, the constant sounds and activity- after so long spent sitting shut in a room with only a laptop, hearing the sudden cries of laughter and greetings in the corridors and the general clamour of a classroom were almost comforting in a way and being able to actually move around to different rooms between classes was a welcome break. There's just something about the unique atmosphere a school has, which envelopes you the minute you enter the bustling halls. It's the camarad...

My School is My Happy Place

The tip-tap of shoes, the sound of buses pulling in, the incessant chatter surrounding the big building, all create an aura of familiarity for a lot of us each morning. School is an integral part of any person’s life. I mean, it comprises of the majority of our childhood. So, it’s no surprise that a lot of us become accustomed to the place we spend a quarter of the day in for fourteen years straight. The atmosphere of a school really is what decides whether its students are happy or not. The students, teachers as well as faculty come together to create a wonderful learning space where children and eventually young adults, learn to become world-class citizens.  Being surrounded by peers and friends provides a bubble of comfort and yet provides the competitive spark required to succeed, or some would say even survive, in today’s overly competitive world. Lastly, the need to grow, the hunger for knowledge, and striving to continually improve and become the best version of ourselves pu...

My School is My Happy Place

Image
Things took a turn for the worse last year when the COVID - 19 pandemic shut down schools worldwide. With both students and teachers being equally confused about this unimaginable mode of education, the nightmare seemed to last forever.  As the vaccines rolled out and public places returned to their former glory, there was hope again. Before I had the chance to contemplate going to school again, I found myself packing my bags, wrapping books, and buying stationary. It felt like I was coming back to school from a long vacation, but this time I couldn't wait for the vacation to end. The classes seemed nostalgic yet refreshing. There was pure excitement on everyone's face. Teachers seemed relieved that they could read students' expressions, and students were relieved that they were learning something for the first time in a year. Despite the masks and the safety protocols, it felt like COVID never happened.  My parents always told me that my school years would be the best year...

My School Is My Happy Place

School - an institution where as a student I have spent most of my time discovering myself and the world around me. Being back in school after online classes has truly made me realize the importance of this institution, not only in the academic aspect but on several levels. Seeing my teachers and peers has positively kept me eager to attend school daily.  My teachers are always there to help, guide and always make sure that I am comfortable and my peers whose never-ending support and encouragement makes me feel at home. School has definitely provided me with a great platform to explore my strengths, develop them further, understand my weaknesses and work on them.  My school has also provided several extracurricular choices for me and every student gets the opportunity to understand their areas of excellence. Apart from this, I have learnt many important life lessons that I will be carrying throughout and what it takes to be a leader from my school. My school is my happy...
