Students Pen Journal Entries Expressing Their Delight in Returning to School

Journal Entry of Adnan Iqbal:

Dear Diary,

To be honest coming back to school was the best thing which has happened in this dreadful pandemic. We have been suffering for about two years now. This pandemic has brought many changes to our lifestyle positive and negative. Positive aspect is that we have many new skills like cooking, drawing, coding, etc. But the negative aspect is that it has made us addicted to our devices and also made us lazy. Our interaction with our classmates and teachers has been nil in these times.

But now since I and everyone else have returned to the campus it has been a great experience. I was in particular able to experience the joy of having discussions in class, playing with my friends and most of all, it is very easy to pay attention in class because in online sessions you are tempted to watch the YouTube or play games in all the periods. Coming back to campus was refreshing. Now I don’t feel bored at all. So as I conclude I would say that coming back to school is a feeling which can’t be expressed in words. The happiness is too great to be expressed. So goodnight, dear diary.

2020 was a year like none other. Never did we expect the challenges Covid- 19 brought with it. Even though all our teachers did a phenomenal job in online classes, going back to school was something I really looked forward to, but when it was actually time to go back; I was nervous. As soon as I stepped back on campus, nostalgia hit me. School felt so different yet the same.

Walking through the corridors and seeing beautiful posters and slogans all around spreading the messages of social distancing and sanitization, I officially felt back to school in the “New Normal”. We are all sitting far apart from each other, yet that classroom atmosphere full of enthusiasm is unchanged.

The classroom chit- chat with my peers is a part of the education process, and I am glad to have that back. Even though all of us are wearing masks, which is still going to take time to sink in, I find comfort in the fact that I know the faces beneath them; the same friends I met pre-pandemic.  This year will have its own challenges, but I am ready to face them all, because we are all in this together.

Journal Entry of Mahalakshmi Bhaskar of Grade XII

The start of the school year seemed more overwhelming than ever before. I could observe the mixed feelings of excitement, joy, and confusion among the students, parents, and teachers. The coronavirus has made a lasting impression on me. Physically, it has reduced my strength training to the point that the most workout I get is going around my house and dancing around my bedroom to melodies that don't make me feel like I'm in the midst of a pandemic, and emotionally, it has been quite taxing.

I've been missing my pals a lot lately and have been feeling lonely a lot but finally it has all come to an end. "Try not to remind me about internet based illustrations”. Going to class is ‘cool’. However, there are many changes. You can't embrace the educators and embracing friends isn't permitted by the same token.

During the first day of school, kids began to crowd at the school entrance early in the morning. Despite the fact that masks are required for kids, many of them willingly covered their faces. This was done not just for sanitary reasons, but also to demonstrate the pupils understanding of COVID-19.

After many weeks of hard distance learning for children and teachers, everyone showed a willingness to return to regular learning procedures and follow the government's new safety standards. All the standard wellbeing techniques were seen as students entered the school building after months. They needed to pass a sanitization procedure. The teachers and youngsters were glad to be once again at school, and didn't wish to get back to remote learning.

Journal Entry of Jenisha, Grade XII-E

The first day back in the classroom was unusual and emotional for both students and teachers. It was a refreshing change for everyone after staying inside their homes for a year. School felt livelier than ever, seeing new faces as well as old ones.  Meeting my old friends from 10th and making new ones was the best highlight of my day. Everyone was so friendly and nice to each other that it didn't feel as if we were meeting for the first time since the pandemic hit. The social interaction made me feel so cheerful.

Everything felt the same as it did in 2019, friends talking, sharing jokes and making each other smile, nothing really changed. Everyone adapted to the ''new normal'' quick enough, maintaining social distancing and sanitizing their hands regularly, though our joy could not be hidden with the mask over our faces. The teachers were delighted to welcome us back on campus too, instructing us and making sure we were on track with protocols we had to follow and introduced us to our new schedule.

It had been a fantastic first day back on campus with everyone, and I really look forward to continuing face-to-face learning for the rest of the year.
