What Makes My School A Happy Place?

Undoubtedly, school is a very happy place. Many of my best memories are associated with school. It is like our second home where we spend a considerable amount of time during the formative years of our life.  



Some of the factors which contribute in making school a happy place are:

1. Positive environment 

Among various parameters used for measuring the Happiness Index, psychological well- being of people is considered a prime factor. A positive environment contributes extensively to psychological well-being. 

2. Time management

Assessing the use and management of time is a key concern in assessment of HI. Regular workshops on helping children make their own work plans, take ownership of their learning, analyze their results and setting time frames can help children better manage their time.

3. Fostering unity in diversity

Cultural diversity and resilience is a positive index of a happy community of people. Given that India has a strong cultural diversity, it becomes all the more important. This encourages students to show interest in different cultures and appreciate diversity.

4. Integrating curriculum with happiness

The National Curriculum Framework and the pedagogical strategies adopted by the schools should be integrated with the concept of Happiness in a more focused manner. The objective of education is to enable people to lead happy lives and to create better human beings.

Schools also add a tool in assessment where the happiness quotient can be measured through parent, teacher and student feedback. Happiness can be made into a culture which can be felt, seen, heard and experienced by all stake holders.

5. All Round Personality Development

At school we get the exposure to participate in various academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities which hones our personality and helps us to get prepared to face the real world with confidence.

My School is My Happy Place

  Returning to my school after over a year and a half, I was filled with a flurry of mixed emotions; on one hand nervous about the adjustment and finding my way around again, on the other hand eager and relieved to go back to the sense of fun and normalcy, one thing we've all certainly missed. The novelty of the situation made me feel a certain sense of wonder and interest in all the little things I'd forgotten about being in school, the moments I'll look back on with nostalgia one day. For one thing, the constant sounds and activity- after so long spent sitting shut in a room with only a laptop, hearing the sudden cries of laughter and greetings in the corridors and the general clamour of a classroom were almost comforting in a way and being able to actually move around to different rooms between classes was a welcome break.
