My School is My Happy Place

Things took a turn for the worse last year when the COVID - 19 pandemic shut down schools worldwide. With both students and teachers being equally confused about this unimaginable mode of education, the nightmare seemed to last forever.

As the vaccines rolled out and public places returned to their former glory, there was hope again. Before I had the chance to contemplate going to school again, I found myself packing my bags, wrapping books, and buying stationary. It felt like I was coming back to school from a long vacation, but this time I couldn't wait for the vacation to end. The classes seemed nostalgic yet refreshing. There was pure excitement on everyone's face. Teachers seemed relieved that they could read students' expressions, and students were relieved that they were learning something for the first time in a year. Despite the masks and the safety protocols, it felt like COVID never happened.

My parents always told me that my school years would be the best years of my life, and today I finally understood why they said so. It took me a pandemic and a year of online classes to understand that school was much more than studies. It was about the people and the experiences. I finally realized that school might be a happy place after all.
